Giggs and Street League get to work

GIGGS-MANCHESTER
Welsh football manager and Laureus Academy Member Ryan Giggs invited a special group of footballers to play on the five a side pitch at Hotel Football in Manchester recently.
The lucky players were from Laureus-supported programme Street League, which uses football to help young adults get into work or back into the education system through an eight week course. The students develop vital employability skills such as communication, teamwork, CV writing and interview techniques. And after their classroom activities? They play football.
Giggs was on hand to provide some coaching and give a team talk to the Street League members and he was clear on how important programmes such as this are, “Football is the hook to get these guys in. You don’t play football until you’ve done the classroom – that’s the incentive and the course helps them get into work or back into education.”
Giggs continued, “As a coach, at any level, you want to see progression and it’s been great to see the guys taking on board some of the tips I’ve given them. It’s really important for me, as a Laureus Ambassador to see the work we do and hopefully it’s a boost for the guys too. Laureus isn’t about the glitzy awards, there’s a lot of good work being done with projects like this.”
